Goodwill preps for move to Johnston
Goodwill of Central Iowa celebrated its upcoming move to a new headquarters and training facility in Johnston on Sept. 22, and announced the launch of its first capital campaign in 20 years.
About 100 people attended the event at Goodwill’s new facility, 5355 N.W. 86th St. The former American TV & Appliance store is being renovated to house the agency’s corporate headquarters and training center, a new retail store and a Career Connection Center offering free walk-in employment assistance.
Goodwill plans to open the retail store there this fall, and move the rest of its operations in March 2016 from the north side of Des Moines.
“We look forward to Goodwill being here and being part of the Johnston community,” Johnston Mayor Paula Dierenfeld said in a news release. “Goodwill is a great organization. We expect you’ll continue to grow and be very successful here in Johnston.”
Goodwill has helped place more than 700 clients in jobs this year. That’s already more than the agency’s record year in 2014 when it placed 565 people in jobs at more than 325 companies.
The agency announced an $8 million capital campaign to raise money to complete the building renovations, move the headquarters and fund its programs.
