Today, Goodwill of Central Iowa played host to a group of professionals visiting the Des Moines metro from the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Nine construction industry instructors and administrators from Kazakhstan and two interpreters learned how Goodwill’s work development and job training programs help employ people as they took a tour through our headquarters in Des Moines.
The group is wrapping up a three-week visit to Iowa, where they came to learn more about the state’s construction industry and its workforce. Some of the visitors are government workers in Kazakhstan, and others are educators there. Of particular interest to the group were Goodwill’s vocational training programs, and information about employing people with barriers to employment.
Community Development Manager Rodney Tomlinson talked to the group about Goodwill’s volunteer program, and Workforce Strategist Kevin Lord gave them a tour of Goodwill Headquarters and discussed our job training programs.
“We always keep in mind how we’re going to help the people we’re serving be able to work in the community,” Lord said.
