When Halloween approaches, the first thing on your to-do list is probably getting costumes for the whole family. But don’t forget to decorate your home for the holiday! Whether you prefer a charming “Hocus Pocus” atmosphere or an unhinged “The Shining” vibe, these fun home decor craft ideas will get your entire household in the spooky season spirit.
The cute
If you have little kids or aren’t a fan of jump scares yourself, these DIY Halloween crafts will be a great fit for your home.
Creepy Cute Figurines
Goodwill is packed with adorable porcelain, ceramic, and stone animal figurines that you can easily turn into Halloween decor by spray painting them black and giving them eerie red eyes. This DIY is so simple that your kids can help you create these adorably spooky Halloween creatures!
Halloween Fabric Banner
Super easy to make, this DIY fabric banner uses colorful scraps of fabric you can find at any Goodwill. Just look for colors and patterns that remind you of Halloween. Think orange, black, purple, green, polka dots, stripes, spiders, pumpkins, and other fun prints. Cut your fabric finds into strips and tie them to a rope or string that’s long enough to drape across your mantel.
Pretty Pumpkins
You can’t celebrate Halloween without pumpkins! Go beyond the standard orange jack-o-lantern by adding cutesy vibes to your collection of thrifted pumpkins from Goodwill. Spray paint them in fun colors, add stripes or fun patterns, cover them in glitter and rhinestones, or let your kids paint lustrations on them. They’re a great addition to your dinner table, mantel, or front porch.
Halloween Luminaries
Luminaries are typically a Christmas tradition, but they’re a great way to invite trick-or-treaters to your door. Thrift mason jars and other pint jars from Goodwill and cover the outsides with a coat of acrylic paint in your favorite Halloween colors. Then use permanent marker to draw faces on each jar. After they’ve dried, place battery-powered tea lights inside, and voila! You’re done. These adorable luminaries would also look great on your dinner table, mantel, or bookshelf.
Ghost and Pumpkin Candles
Possibly the easiest and fastest DIY of the bunch, all you need for this craft are white and orange candlesticks from Goodwill and a permanent marker. Draw ghost faces on the white candles and pumpkin faces on the orange candles. That’s all there is to it!

The creepy
Ready to let your spooky side shine? These craft ideas are just the right amount of scary.
Apothecary Jars
Your local Goodwill likely has glassware in all shapes and sizes, from pint jars to wine bottles to milk jars. Grab a handful of your favorite shapes. You could spray paint them in spooky colors or leave them clear. At home, create labels – think poison and specimen labels – and glue them to your apothecary jars.
If you want to get extra freaky, add “specimens” inside your jars. Fill each jar with “exotic” canned fruit you can find at your grocery store and add caramel syrup to make the specimen look like it’s floating. So creepy – and so cool.
Doll Part Planters
Goodwill usually has an abundance of old dolls just waiting to be transformed into bone-chilling Halloween decor. Pick out some of the scarier dolls and take them home for a little…rearranging. Separate the head and limbs, then simply stick them in your planters to make it look like the dolls are emerging from the dirt. To make this decor even creepier, give your dolls a haircut or a full shave and paint their eyeballs white.
Eyeball Flowers
Continuing the “peculiar plant” theme, thrift artificial florals from Goodwill and hot glue fake eyeballs into the center of each bloom or cover the petals in googly eyes. You could stick these eyeball flowers into your outdoor planters or create elaborate floral arrangements that’ll give your dinner guests a fright.
Snake Wreath
All you need for this craft is an old wreath and some rubber snakes, both of which you can find at Goodwill. Spray paint the wreath and snakes black and let dry. Then attach the snakes to your wreath using floral wire or hot glue. To level up the spook factor, paint the snake’s eyes bright green and its tongue read. It’ll give your creation an unexpected pop of color.
Zombies Siamese Twin Dolls
Turn Goodwill Barbies or plastic baby dolls into zombie dolls with acrylic paint and fabric scraps. First, remove a couple limbs so you can super glue the dolls together. Next, paint your dolls gray and give them black mouths and white eyes. Have fun with it and get creepily creative with your paint job. Then make a simple dress using a scrap of fabric from a tea towel or old t-shirt. Make the dolls’ hair stand on end with a bit of hairspray. Set your zombie Siamese twin dolls on top of your mailbox or porch railing to greet unsuspecting trick-or-treaters.
