Goodwill of Central Iowa continues to grow with new additions to its leadership team and Board of Directors. Alison Monaghan joins the organization as director of marketing and development, Beth Hanson as retail director and Katherine Riley Harrington as director of mission services. Kevin Sherlock of Hy-Vee and Steve Whitty of Principal Financial Group have also joined Goodwill of Central Iowa’s Board of Directors.

Alison Monaghan’s focus is strategic direction for the marketing needs of GCI including advertising, public relations, social media, development and community outreach. She most recently served as Happy Medium’s communications director, launching the in-house public relations division and management of the award-winning social media department. Her professional background includes an eight year span in Las Vegas where she worked on the media relations campaigns across a vast range of clients, from Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, an annual PGA Golf tournament, to the opening of MGM Resorts $8.5 billion CityCenter development on the Las Vegas Strip. Monaghan is a graduate of Iowa State University.
Beth Hanson joins Goodwill as the retail director, overseeing management of the 19 stores across central Iowa. Her career in retail started with Williams-Sonoma as general manager in West Des Moines from 2004-2007 before moving into a district manager role, overseeing Michigan, Ohio and Iowa stores for seven years. She also spent time in Canada and Australia working on special projects for the company. Hanson is a graduate of Central College.
Katherine Riley Harrington is the newest addition as director of mission services, where she will develop and expand the organization’s services to meet community needs, increasing the impact and increasing the number of persons served, placed in employment, and/or achieving individual service goals. She has previous experience working in for-profit, non-profit and government sectors in Des Moines and Chicago. Most recently, Riley Harrington was as a program coordinator for REACH at the Evelyn K. Davis Center, serving as a grant coordinator bundling job development, parenting and financial literacy services to non-custodial parents. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Smith College and a Master’s from Loyola University, Chicago.
Hanson, Monaghan and Riley Harrington’s roles include serving on the organization’s leadership team alongside Jackie Norris, president and CEO, Pat Mullenbach, CFO, Dave Parr, vice president of operations, and Kathy Crooks, human resources director.
Kevin Sherlock, senior vice president of merchandising and business development for Hy-Vee, and Steve Whitty, vice president of corporate marketing for Principal Financial Group, have also joined in offering guidance and direction to the organization through new roles on the Board of Directors.
