Fall is one of our favorite times of the year at Goodwill of Central Iowa. With falling leaves, bowls of chili, and, dare we say, too much candy, there have been so many ways to celebrate this new season.
Thursday, October 27th was a busy day at HQ in Johnston!
The festivities kicked off with the Annual Day Services Halloween Party. Participants dressed in their spookiest gear and celebrated with candy, treats, games and more!

Everyone was dressed to kill and looked fabulous!
The fun continued at the Annual Chili Cook-Off. With over 10 varieties to sample, all who joined were asked to cast a vote for their favorite chili offering.

The People’s Choice Award, for the second year in a row, went to Jonathon Henson, Director of Retail Operations, for his hearty, smoked brisket chili. Jonathon, as the winner from last year, selected his favorite chili made by Tahara Norton, Executive Assistant, and presented her with The Golden Ladle Award.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Annual Chili Cook-Off including those who brought other snacks, treats and toppings.
Halloween festivities just wouldn’t be the same without costumes. Luckily, Goodwill of Central Iowa is Your DIY Halloween Headquarters!
Each of our locations was challenged with creating themed costumes out of clothing and accessories found right within their stores. Our social media audiences were asked to select their favorite costume collection by liking and sharing on Facebook.
With over 900 votes and 100 shares, the store that reigned supreme in this year’s Goodwill Employee Costume Contest was Boone! Kudos to Newton for winning the Best Store Display too!

Congratulations, Boone for winning the Best Store Costume! Their win also ended Indianola’s 5-year winning streak, way to go!

Newton’s Spooky Good decorating skills named them as this year’s Best Store Display!
In order to make certain everyone was able to have as much fun as we did this Halloween season, we partnered with Lazer 103.3 in support of their yearly Costumes For Kids initiative.

Through costume drives at our retail locations, a financial donation by Goodwill of Central Iowa, and the help of our retail customers by rounding up their in-store purchases, we were able to help Lazer 103.3 secure 514 costumes and accessories!

These costumes were donated to Children & Families of Iowa where they are being distributed to kids across the state of Iowa. How amazing is that?

We hope you all have a fun, safe, and spectacularly spooky Halloween! And if you need last-minute costumes and decorations, be sure to head on our to one of our 13 retail locations near you!
