Goodwill of Central Iowa is participating in a national mobile donation campaign with Uber that was just announced publicly on Thursday.

Uber Spring Cleaning is a one-day event in the Des Moines metro, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 2, when people can contact Uber to pick up clothing and other small bagged items from their homes. Uber will deliver them to our South store at 3333 S.E. 14th St. in Des Moines.

It’s totally free to donors!

Here’s how it works: On Saturday, you can open up the Uber app on your phone, then select the GIVE option on the bottom of the screen. After you’ve connected, an Uber vehicle will arrive within just a few minutes to pick up your donated items. Donations must be bagged. Donors are responsible for bringing their bags outside, as Uber drivers cannot leave their vehicles unattended.

For those who have already completed their spring cleaning and made donations, or live in areas where Uber isn’t available, monetary donations can be made to Goodwill at http://give.goodwill.org

This event should be a great way to encourage donors to think about giving to Goodwill, and using Uber, which is fairly new to Des Moines. Uber and Goodwill are conducting this event in more than 50 cities across the country.
