As one of the greenest organizations on the planet, our partnership with local businesses and community members us keep our planet even greener. Goodwill of Central Iowa offers free computer recycling to Iowans. Our recycling program diverts used computers and computer equipment from area landfills and provides consumer education on the importance of environmentally-responsible computer disposal. This program also helps create job opportunities for Iowans who have barriers to employment or independence. Together we can make the planet greener while helping Iowans.
While computers are safe to use, they do contain some environmentally sensitive materials. These materials can be safely removed or recycled, but only if the computers are kept out of landfills in the first place. Goodwill provides an environmentally responsible solution for diverting eWaste from landfills. Plus, any recovered proceeds from our ewaste program help support Goodwill of Central Iowa’s job training and employment programs.
Individuals and businesses can drop off computer equipment at any participating Goodwill location throughout central Iowa, or at more than 2,000 drop-off locations across the country.
Goodwill will accept and sort the donated computer equipment. The equipment will be responsibly recycled and if the equipment, such as a laptop or gaming system is eligible to be refurbished for resale, the device is wiped clean by Department of Defense standards.
