Environmental Stewardship at Goodwill of Central Iowa
The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that the average person throws away 81 pounds of clothing per year. That adds up to 3.8 billion pounds of unnecessary waste added to our landfills.
At Goodwill of Central Iowa, we rely on the generous donations of items for our stores to operate and our customers to shop, all to benefit our mission of making purposeful employment possible for all. This has been the operational model of the entire Goodwill network since its founding in 1902. By donating and shopping secondhand, you’re helping deliver positive social and environmental outcomes in central Iowa and for the global community.
More for Our Mission – Less For Our Landfills
To us, it’s important that we not only remain good stewards of the donations that are gifted to us but that we remain good stewards to our local environment. That’s why we take extra steps to ensure a second life for the items donated to Goodwill of Central Iowa.
our Recycling programs
At Goodwill of Central Iowa, we are dedicated to being responsible stewards of the donated items we are so generously entrusted with by our community. We also believe in protecting our environment.
That’s why we take extra steps to ensure each donation’s impact on our mission is maximized through the process of reselling, recycling, and salvaging.
