Our participation in the national one-day mobile donation drive with Uber on Saturday, May 2, was very successful!
Our South store collected seven full cardboard gaylord containers of clothing, shoes, toys and housewares during the event, which ran from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
That’s about 2,800 pounds of goods, which gave our South store a great variety of nice donations.
Assistant Store Manager Grace Williamson, who accepted the donations at the store Saturday, said donations came in as late as 3:40 p.m. She added she was pleasantly surprised at the results of the drive.
“It was a hectic day, but we were so grateful for the donations,” Grace said. “It was a bit of a shock to get that much, but to me, it ended up being a huge success.”
Uber, which is fairly new to Des Moines, is an app-based ridesharing company. Account holders were able to get their donations to Goodwill at no charge during the event by using the Uber app to request a pickup for their donations. The #UberSpringCleaning event was held in roughly 50 U.S. cities on May 2.
