On June 1, our newest group of Project SEARCH interns received a visit by Mike Sherzan, a Democratic candidate running for U.S. Congress.

Sam Pattison, Project SEARCH instructor, worked with his four interns before Sherzan’s visit to help them formulate questions to ask him. Sherzan spoke with the group for about an hour, and their discussion ranged from the difficulty of finding reliable and affordable public transportation to issues pertaining directly to Sherzan’s campaign, such as raising the minimum wage and equal pay opportunities for women.

The interns were an attentive audience and they enjoyed Sherzan’s visit.

Project SEARCH is a work immersion program for adults designed to provide quality internships that will prepare them for competitive employment upon graduation. Goodwill currently has four Project SEARCH interns enrolled in a program at the Altoona Hy-Vee store. They will graduate from the program in November.

Our Project SEARCH interns are: Victoria Paramo, in the Italian Express Department; Alexa Schenke, Deli; Michael Edmond, Bakery; and Craig Wilson, Dairy.
